Parker Thompson Holds Serve for USF2000 Indianapolis Victory

For Parker Thompson, much of Saturday’s USF2000 finale at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was spent riding around in first, trailing the pace car during an extended yellow. For the rest of the time, Thompson maintained his lead to claim a dominant victory in the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis Race 2.

Thompson took the lead on the opening lap from the pole, then spent the majority of his race following the pace car from the lead after three separate incidents and oil on-track from the No. 5 of Austin McCusker led to a lengthy caution.

In all, slightly over 20 minutes of the 30-minute feature would be spent under yellow.

When the race finally returned to green-flag conditions with eight minutes remaining, Thompson withstood a fierce charge from Victor Franzoni to claim the victory by .7114 seconds.

Franzoni crossed the line in second, with Luke Gabin taking the final podium position from 1.9195 seconds back.

Anthony Martin and Jordan Lloyd completed the top-5 finishers. Yufeng Luo, Garth Rickards, Lucas Kohl, TJ Fischer and Robert Megennis rounded out the top 10.

USF2000 will return to action on May 27 when the field heads to Lucas Oil Raceway as part of the 2016 Carb Night Classic.
