Takuma Sato Paces Rainy IndyCar Practice at Barber

How’s this for a change of pace: the rainy second practice for Sunday’s Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama was led by three Hondas.

A.J. Fort Racing’s Takuma Sato (1:07.2157) and Jack Hawksworth (1:07.2197) led the way with near-identical times to top the session, with James Hinchcliffe rattling off a 1:07.2455 to complete a Honda sweep of the podium.

Will Power (1:07.3434) and Graham Rahal (1:07.3494) rounded out the top five.

The second practice session of the weekend for the Verizon IndyCar Series fell victim to weather early on. With clear skies predicted through the weekend, only four cars went on-track in the opening 15 minutes of the session as the track dried.

When the track finally did begin to dry, the Hondas made their presence known.

In all, Honda claimed four of the top five positions. All was not lost for Chevrolet in the session, though. The Bowtie Brigade took the entirety of the back half of the top 10.

The IndyCar teams will return tomorrow for another practice session, followed by qualifying for Sunday’s race.
