Regan Smith, Cole Custer Added to JR Motorsports’ XFINTITY Series Lineup

Regan Smith will reunite with JR Motorsports in the XFINITY Series for one race at Bristol in August, the team announced Wednesday.

Dale’s Pale Ale will sponsor the No. 88 car while he is behind the wheel.

It was just last October that Smith found out that he would not be back with JR Motorsports for the 2016 season. The 32-year-old has competed in 100 races for the team recording six wins, 27 top 5s and 72 top-10 finishes.

He has since moved to the Sprint Cup Series, where he is running the full schedule for Tommy Baldwin Racing’s No. 7.

Additionally, Cole Custer will make his XFINITY Series debut at Richmond in April, driving the team’s part-time No. 5.

He will also pilot a car for JRM at Charlotte in October and the season finale in November at Homestead.

Currently, Custer is competing in his first full-time year in a truck for JRM. In 21 career Camping World Truck Series races he has accumulated two wins, four top 5s and 10 top-10 finishes in 21 races. He is also the youngest driver to win a NASCAR race at just 16 years old.

Custer brings Haas Automation to the XFINITY Series for the first time since 2004, when the company sponsored Jason Leffler for 25 races.

Justin Allgaier and Elliott Sadler currently drive JR Motorsports’ full-time XFINITY entries. The No. 5 has entered one race with Kasey Kahne and plans another with Chase Elliott at Texas Motor Speedway in April, while the No. 88 has fielded Elliott and Kevin Harvick and also has races planned with Josh Berry, Alex Bowman, Kenny Habul, Kahne and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in addition to Custer and Smith.

Dustin joined the Frontstretch team at the beginning of the 2016 season. 2020 marks his sixth full-time season covering the sport that he grew up loving. His dream was to one day be a NASCAR journalist, thus why he attended Ithaca College (Class of 2018) to earn a journalism degree. Since the ripe age of four, he knew he wanted to be a storyteller.
