JJ Yeley Joins TriStar Motorsports for 2016

TriStar Motorsports rounded out its 2016 driver lineup on Wednesday, signing JJ Yeley to drive the No. 14 Toyota.

Yeley will take over the car starting this weekend at Atlanta for the Heads Up Georgia 250.

No stranger to the XFINITY Series, Yeley has 218 career starts in the series. He ran the full 2015 season for JGL Racing, finishing 12th in points with a season-best fourth at Talladega in the spring.

“I am excited to get back behind the wheel of a racecar this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway,” Yeley said. “It was tough not being at Daytona last weekend, but I am ready to get back out and make some laps. I can’t thank Mark Smith and the guys at TriStar Motorsports enough for the opportunity. Hopefully we’ll be able to get some decent finishes for the team.”

The No. 14 car was run by Cale Conley and Mike Bliss in 2015. The team’s best runs came at Auto Club and Kentucky, both finishes of 16th by Conley.

“We are glad to have JJ in the No.14 starting in Atlanta,” Mark Smith, owner of TriStar Motorsports, said. “Yeley is a strong competitor and we look forward to what he can bring to our organization.”

Yeley has seven career starts at Atlanta, with a best finish of fifth in 2006. He has four career top-20 finishes at the track.

He joins David Starr as TriStar’s two full-time drivers in 2016. He did not race in the season-opening race at Daytona. Benny Gordon ran the No. 14 to a 35th-place finish, completing 103 laps before a transmission issue forced him to retire.

Sponsorship for Yeley’s car has not been announced.
