Xfinity Series points leader Chris Buescher is starting off his weekend right while trying to keep his championship lead intact.
Buescher ran just 15 laps during the 55-minute session and posted a fastest speed of 181.251 mph, edging Kyle Busch by just over a tenth of a second. Brennan Poole was third quickest, followed by Ty Dillon and Joey Logano.
The session wasn’t without a few incidents though. David Starr slid up the track early on and into the wall before spinning down the track and bouncing hard down onto the apron. That ended his practice time for the first session as the team was forced to pull out the backup.
Later, Darrell Wallace Jr. spun in almost the same way, only closer to the entrance of pit road. And though his hit down onto the apron wasn’t nearly as hard as the one suffered by Starr, Wallace was also forced to a backup car.
The NXS will have another practice session this afternoon from 4:30 – 5:55 p.m. ET. Drivers will qualify for Saturday afternoon’s Kansas Lottery 300 Saturday at 12:45 p.m. ET.
