Kyle Busch laid down a lap speed of over 189 mph on his first lap on the track, and his 28.518-second lap time was fast enough to stand for the entire final practice session for the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday night. His older brother Kurt Busch was second fastest with a lap time of 28.572. Joey Logano (28.646), Ryan Newman (28.649) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounded out the top five.
Four of the remaining 12 Chase drivers posted lap times outside the top 10. They include Dover winner Kevin Harvick (12th), Martin Truex Jr. (15th), Jeff Gordon (16th) and polesitter Matt Kenseth (25th).
Kurt Busch had the best 10-lap average speed of 185.152 mph, followed by Jimmie Johnson, Harvick, Kenseth and Earnhardt Jr.
