Martin Truex Jr. will take a different approach on Sunday at the Darlington Raceway by running a special paint scheme promoting National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September on his No. 78 Chevrolet.
The car will feature a teal ribbon on the hood, quarterpanels, rear bumper and roof of the car. Truex will be just one of the few drivers who will not run a throwback paint scheme over the weekend. His gloves and steering wheel will also be outfitted with the color teal.
Other drivers are also getting into the teal driving gloves and accessories. Danica Patrick will have a teal steering wheel inside her No. 10 Chevrolet. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ryan Newman and Kasey Kahne will have teal racing gloves.
The Furniture Row Racing team owner is also excited about the teal colors.
“It is an honor to have our No. 78 racecar help kick off National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month,” said Joe Garone, general manager of FRR in a release. “Sherry’s (Pollex) strength along with her all-out dedication to helping others is an inspiration to everyone associated with our race team.”
These items used by Truex, Earnhardt, Patrick, Newman and Kahne will all be later signed and auctioned off to benefit the cause. Sherry Pollex, Truex’s long time girlfriend, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer over a year ago. The two have spent a lot of time together raising funds and awareness for ovarian cancer and other forms of cancer.
