NASCAR on TV this week

Number Crunching: Your Fantasy Watch for the 2015 5-hour Energy 301 New Hampshire

Last week at Kentucky did not go particularly well for the NASCAR Fantasy Live team I had picked. The Joe Gibbs Racing cars showed incredible speed with the lower downforce package that NASCAR was trying and I just didn’t see the amount of speed they had in practice. In Fantasy, like in real life, you live and you learn so we’ll put that in the memory bank for the next track with that package. Lets move on from last week shall we.

This week, the drivers are at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, “The Magic Mile.” The race is scheduled for 301 laps this week and that means trying to pick the lap leaders. Last year, the Penske cars swept the races here at Loudon with Brad Keselowski winning the spring race and Joey Logano winning the fall race. The JGR cars look fast again this week and took three of the top-five qualifying spots. Kevin Harvick showed good speed here last year and should be a car to watch also.

But enough chitter-chatter, lets get to the picks. As always, I’m using the price you would have locked in at if you have been using my teams.

No. 4 Kevin Harvick $28.00
Harvick seems to have cooled off some from his extremely hot start to the season but remains a threat each week. Harvick led 104 laps in the fall race here at New Hampshire last year and finished third. I would expect him to be a top-five car.

No. 78 Martin Truex Jr. $22.75
Truex rolls off in 15th position this week and should move up through the field. His car looks like it had pretty good speed in practice and I would imaging will look better in Saturday’s practices in race trim. Truex had a tough week last week. Let’s hope he shakes that off this week.

No. 41 Kurt Busch $22.50
Kurt has run well at New Hampshire in the past (he’s a three-time winner at the Magic Mile, most recently in 2008) and I expect him to run well this week. Kurt has shown flashes of dominance in a few races and this week could be no exception. As a side note, if you listen to in-car audio through the NASCAR app, Kurt can be an entertaining driver to listen to at times.

No. 19 Carl Edwards $20.50
Carl put his car on the pole for this week’s race. I like the way his team and JGR as a whole have looked at Kentucky. The Gibbs cars usually run well here and have dominated a few races since 2012. Lets hope that their newest driver will take some of that setup magic and run well with it this week.

No. 46 Michael Annett $6.25
Not much to say about Annett, he is cheap and starts at the back of the pack. There usually isn’t too much crazy carnage here at New Hampshire, so lets hope he can stay on the lead lap and gains some of those place-differential points.

Race Winner: Kyle Busch
Kyle has run well here in the past and I think he has that momentum on his side.

Manufacturer: Toyota
