Juan Pablo Montoya and Team Penske teammate Will Power will start on the front row for race No. 2 of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit based on entrant points after rain prematurely ended qualifying on Sunday morning.
IndyCar called off the qualifying session due to “deteriorating racetrack conditions” when a persistent rain continued throughout the session. The storm was a also a continuation of the storm that ended race No. 1 early, and handed Andretti Autosport a one-two finish, with Carlos Munoz and Marco Andretti leading the way on Saturday afternoon.
Montoya leads the championship standings by 11 points over defending IndyCar champion Power and the starting lineup reflects it. Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon, Graham Rahal and Josef Newgarden complete the first three rows.
