The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series completed one of two practice sessions Saturday morning and the non-Chasers stole the spotlight. Marcos Ambrose was the quickest with a time of 28.176 sec at 191.652 mph. Earnhardt Ganassi Racing teammates Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson were second and third, respectively.
One would have to glance down to fourth-place to find the fastest Chase driver. Carl Edwards and teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. were fourth and fifth, respectively, putting three Fords in the top five in Saturday’s first of two practice sessions.
Ryan Newman was the only other Chase driver in the top 10, posting a time that was eighth quickest. Denny Hamlin was the slowest Chase driver, sliding down to 28th on the speed charts by the end of the practice session.
There will be one more practice session at 2PM ET this afternoon. Final practice will be broadcast on FS2.
