The first NASCAR Nationwide Series practice session of the day was cancelled due to rain, so teams were only allowed one practice session. The session lasted for one and a half hours and, at the conclusion, Ryan Blaney was fastest. Blaney posted a time of 29.992 sec at 180.048 mph. Blaney is ineligible for points in NNS competition as he declared the Camping World Truck Series as his designated points-earning series for the 2014 season.
Rookie Chris Buescher was second fastest with a speed of 179.880. Rookie Ty Dillon rounded out the top three. Sprint Cup Series regular Kyle Busch was fourth fastest while Trevor Bayne rounded out the top five.
Several drivers had issues during the practice session, including Busch, who spun on his own on the exit of turn two. However, he didn’t make any contact with the wall and was able to return to the track shortly thereafter.
Other drivers who spun and/or hit the wall during the NNS final practice session are Tanner Berryhill, Corey Lajoie, Kyle Larson, and Dakoda Armstrong. Lajoie will be forced to go to a back-up car.
On-track activity for NNS has concluded for Friday. Teams will return to the track at 12:15PM ET on Saturday for qualifying, followed by the Kansas Lottery 300 at 3:30PM ET. The race can be seen on ESPN.
