NASCAR has announced that “a historic national series entitlement sponsorship” will be officially announced to media and fans on Sept. 3, at 1:30 p.m. ET. The event will air live on NASCAR.com.
The announcement will be made by NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C., and will also feature remarks from NASCAR President Mike Helton, COO Brent Dewar and officials from the new sponsor.
In a much-reported deal, the announcement will entail that Comcast’s Xfinity brand will take over from Nationwide as the second-tier series sponsor of NASCAR in 2015. According to multiple reports, the agreement between the home cable and broadband internet provider and NASCAR is worth $200 million over 10 years, plus another $10 million per season in marketing of the series.
Nationwide Insurance has been the title sponsor of NASCAR’s top developmental racing series, the NASCAR Nationwide Series, since 2008, and will shift focus as a series title sponsor to sponsorship of Sprint Cup teams- including the No. 88 of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. next season.
