Is the future of Joe Gibbs Racing finally coming together? A press conference next week may hold all the answers.
JGR has confirmed it will hold a press conference next Tuesday morning (Aug. 19) at 10 a.m. ET, though the fine details have not been determined.
However, it is widely anticipated that it will be officially announced that Carl Edwards will join the organization for the 2015 Sprint Cup Series season.
But even then, the press conference wouldn’t be all about Edwards. The team is also expected to announce that Mexican-born sensation Daniel Suarez will compete for the organization in the Nationwide Series in 2015.
JGR officials said that Tuesday’s announcements would change the landscape in NASCAR’s top four racing series; however, they did not mention Edwards, Suarez or any other driver by name in their statement on Thursday.
Edwards, who almost signed with JGR back in 2011, officially announced in July that he would not return to Roush Fenway Racing and Ford for the 2015 season.
Edwards, who began his Sprint Cup Series career back in 2004, has scored 23 wins and 105 top-5 finishes in 358 cup series starts, all with Roush Fenway. Edwards also enjoyed great success in the Nationwide Series for RFR, winning 38 races and the 2007 series championship.
Suarez currently competes for Rev Racing in the K&N Pro Series East and is part of NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program. Suarez won the opening two races of the season for the K&N Pro Series East at Daytona and New Smyrna and currently sits 13th in the K&N Pro Series East standings. He drove at Richmond for Gibbs earlier this year.
