Kyle Busch, Joey Logano Lead 1st Martinsville Practice

RIDGEWAY, Va. – There were no engine problems to speak of Friday (April 1) at Martinsville Speedway over at Joe Gibbs Racing.

Only smiles.

Two of JGR’s three cars paced the field in the first Cup practice, with Kyle Busch and young Joey Logano topping the charts. For much of the session, Denny Hamlin was sitting in third until a flurry of speeds in the final few minutes dropped him to eighth.

Here’s a quick look at the top 10:
1) Kyle Busch – 95.617 mph
2) Joey Logano – 95.612
3) Kevin Harvick – 95.314
4) Brad Keselowski – 95.266
5) Jamie McMurray – 95.228
6) Jeff Burton – 95.170
7) Paul Menard – 95.079
8) Denny Hamlin – 94.989
9) Jimmie Johnson – 94.789
10) Juan Pablo Montoya – 94.765

On the flip side, Roush Fenway Racing has struggled so far; none of their four cars are inside the top 20, with Carl Edwards leading the fray in 21st. Said Edwards of his Martinsville weekend: “I don’t come here with huge expectations, so I can only be pleased [if we contend].”
