Carl Edwards Grabs 2006 Dollar General 300 Pole at Charlotte

CONCORD, N.C. – He may not be able to catch Kevin Harvick for the championship, but Carl Edwards can still win races and poles, and he did just that for the Dollar General 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Edwards posted a fast speed of 186.245 mph to win the Busch Pole Award for tonight’s race. Teammate Matt Kenseth took the outside front-row position with a fast lap of 186.181 mph; JJ Yeley, Mike Skinner and Casey Mears completed the top-five starters.

Paul Menard, Jimmie Johnson, Harvick, Kenny Wallace and David Ragan rounded out the top 10. Menard is the highest qualified of the full-time Busch Series drivers, while Ragan is making a one-off appearance in the No. 6 Scott’s Ford for Roush Racing as he prepares to take over the No. 6 Nextel Cup ride in 2007.

Qualifying and the race are a same day show for the Busch Series, so while qualifying just wrapped up, the Dollar General 300 will be starting at 8:00 p.m. Stay tuned to Frontstretch for more LIVE race coverage.
