Steve Byrnes Takes Leave of Absence To Battle Cancer

FOX Sports announced on Wednesday that Steve Byrnes, co-host of NASCAR RaceHub and part-time play-by-play commentator for Camping World Truck Series races on FOX Sports 1, is taking an indefinite leave of absence, effective immediately.  The reason?  Cancer that forced Byrnes to take a similar absence last season has returned, but in a far worse capacity.  As a result, Byrnes is stepping away in order to deal with the serious situation that has presented itself.  While dealing with the disease, Byrnes will spend as much time with his family as he possibly can.

Adam Alexander, with whom Byrnes was already splitting the play-by-play duties for the Camping World Truck Series for the remainder of 2014, will do play-by-play for the remaining five races of the season.  In addition, Alexander will likely take over Byrnes’ spot on NASCAR RaceHub as well.

We at Frontstretch wish Byrnes the best in his second battle against cancer.
