Needing a good qualifying run with a massive mountain to climb, William Byron set the tone for tomorrow’s (Oct. 26) NASCAR Cup Series Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway by claiming the pole on Oct. 25.
The No. 24 was the quickest with a speed of 98.185 mph.
Byron dodged several last-ditch efforts from Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano as the Hendrick Motorsports veteran earned his third pole of the season and first at the Paperclip.
Byron lines up alongside Ty Gibbs, who laid down a blistering lap early, with Larson, Logano and Hamlin completing the top five.
Cole Custer and Haas Factory Team put together a spirited effort, slotting in sixth, with Kyle Busch sitting in tow in seventh and Chase Elliott, Chase Briscoe and Austin Cindric rounding out the top 10 in a situation where Elliott must win if he wants a shot at his second series championship.
