Xfinity Qualifying at Daytona Canceled Due to Lightning, Connor Zilisch on Pole 

The NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying session at Daytona International Speedway was canceled on Friday (Aug. 22) due to multiple lightning holds.

Per the series rulebook, Connor Zilisch will start Daytona on the pole for Friday’s Xfinity race. Zilisch, who recently had surgery on his shoulder, will likely hand his seat to Parker Kligerman at the first caution.

Iowa Speedway winner Sam Mayer earned the second starting spot, with Sammy Smith taking third, Austin Hill in fourth and Justin Allgaier completing the top five in fifth. 

Carson Kvapil, Brandon Jones, Harrison Burton, Christian Eckes and Jesse Love will start sixth through 10th, respectively. 

With 38 cars on the entry list, all drivers will race in Daytona’s Xfinity race.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Daytona on Friday (Aug. 22) with coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET on the CW.
