Clubb Racing Inc. was involved in an auto accident en route home to Illinois following the ARCA Menards Series race at Iowa Speedway, the team posted on social media on Saturday, Aug. 2.
“Really bad night coming home along I-80 in Illinois,” the team posted. “Thankfully, everyone involved is ok. Unfortunately, most, if not all our equipment for the No. 03 is destroyed.”
“My buddy fell asleep driving it [the trailer],” team owner Alex Clubb told Frontstretch. “He hit the median, flipped it, then about five semis kept hitting us. We’re now down one trailer, one truck and one racecar.”
They were about an hour and 18 minutes from arriving home in Morris, Ill., when the accident happened. Clubb was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
Clubb has created a GoFundMe page to help rebuild his organization.
In the ARCA race at Iowa, Clubb piloted the No. 03 to a 20th-place finish, 17 laps down. Making his series debut, Colby Evans wheeled the No. 86 to a 23rd-place result.
Overall, the No. 03 is 10th in owner points with one top 10 at Elko Speedway. The No. 86 is in 19th place. Clubb is the full-time driver of the No. 03 and he is sixth in the national series driver point standings.
ARCA will go to Watkins Glen International on Friday, Aug. 8. As for whether or not CRI will be at The Glen, Clubb said, “I have no idea. We’re not even home yet.”
