Cup Qualifying at Dover Canceled, Chase Elliott Starting 1st

Due to inclement weather at Dover Motor Speedway, series officials canceled NASCAR Cup Series practice and qualifying. As a result, the starting lineup will be set via the metric as per the rulebook. Chase Elliott, therefore, will start first.

In 14 career starts at Dover, Elliott has two wins, 10 top fives, 10 top 10s and 394 laps led. The 2020 Cup champion also won the summer race at EchoPark Speedway to likely advance to the playoffs.

Chase Briscoe will start alongside Elliott on the front row. Briscoe also won at Pocono Raceway this season to presumably clinch his playoff berth.

Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick and William Byron round out the starting top five in third through fifth, respectively.

Three-time winner, including the series’ most recent race at Sonoma Raceway, Shane van Gisbergen will start sixth. SVG has never competed at Dover before in Cup. In his lone NASCAR Xfinity Series start there in 2024, van Gisbergen started 31st and finished 18th.

Michael McDowell, defending champion Joey Logano, Ty Gibbs and Kyle Busch complete the starting top 10 in seventh through 10th, respectively.

With 37 drivers entered, all will compete in the 400-lap race on Sunday, July 20.

Cup Series Dover Starting Lineup

Cup drivers’ first lap at Dover in 2025 will be when the green flag flies for the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400. TNT will air the race on July 20 beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
