This week on Bringing the Heat with Trey Lyle, Marty Smith joins to talk about the in-season tournament, and SportsCenter: 50 States in 50 Days stopping at Dover.
After Smith gave the command to start engines during the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Sonoma Raceway, he shares his takes on Ty Dillon’s “Cinderella run” through the tournament, as well as Shane van Gisbergen’s excellence on road courses, making a comparison to a top golfer. Smith discusses his podcast with Jimmie Johnson and how that relationship has grown.
Smith will be in Dover as part of the SportsCenter: 50 States in 50 Days, taking a ride with Joey Logano. He will also be at the Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway in August.
After the interview, Danny Peters – fresh off a trip to Sonoma – joins Lyle to go over some of the hottest headlines from the week. They discuss the status of SVG in the conversation of NASCAR’s top road course racers.
The top topics return to the courtroom, discussing both the antitrust case between 23XI Racing/Front Row Motorsports and NASCAR, and the case between Legacy Motor Club and Rick Ware Racing.
The soundbite of the week comes from Connor Zilisch, who was able to set the pace on Saturday and beat SVG in the Xfinity race at Sonoma. Based on the race – and Zilisch’s comments – Lyle and Peters debate if Zilisch is the only guy who can contend on a regular basis with van Gisbergen on road courses.
For the final thoughts, Peters wanted to react to the chaotic finish to the ARCA Menards Series race Friday night and how William Sawalich overcame trouble on the restart to grab the win. Lyle turned his focus to open-wheel racing and Formula 1, as they are in media rights talks with Apple becoming a major player.
