The Pit Straight: Hope Comes in Many Forms

There was open-wheel racing on both sides of the Atlantic this weekend with the NTT IndyCar Series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Formula 1 at Silverstone Circuit for the British Grand Prix, and fans of both series were treated to banger finishes. Just as well, both finishes provided fans with a much-needed change of pace in a year where the open-wheel pecking order has been rather predictable; never give up hope, race fans.

Scott Dixon became the third different IndyCar winner in 2025 after benefiting from a rare mistake by Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Alex Palou, finally bringing the series a third winner after 10 races. Meanwhile, the beef stewed between Conor Daly and Santino Ferrucci while Team Penske’s horrid season continued. Wyatt Watson and Tom Blackburn discuss the action from Lexington, Ohio.

Across the pond, Nico Hulkenberg stunned the F1 world with his first-ever podium, 15 years and 239 starts since his F1 debut. Moreover, he scored the first podium for KICK Sauber since 2012 after a masterful drive. Peter Malloy reflects on how big of a moment this is for the driver, team and F1 as a whole.

Finally, Lando Norris was an additional benefactor to safety car shenanigans after Oscar Piastri‘s 10-second penalty put him far behind his McLaren teammate for the win at Silverstone. The trio talks about what this could mean for races in the future and the tight points battle between the two.
