Shane van Gisbergen Takes Chicago Xfinity Series Pole

Shane van Gisbergen turned the fastest lap in NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying Saturday (July 5) for The Loop 110 from the Chicago Street Course. His lap at 87.917 mph will see him start from pole later in the afternoon. It is van Gisbergen’s fourth career pole.

Austin Hill qualified second as he ended the session as the only car within a half second of SVG’s pole time.

The Haas Factory Team Fords of Sam Mayer and Sheldon Creed will occupy the second row as they start third and fourth, respectively.

Jack Perkins, who is making his Xfinity Series debut for Joe Gibbs Racing, will start in fifth, while defending series champion Justin Allgaier is slated to roll off sixth.

William Sawalich starts seventh ahead of last week’s winner, Nick Sanchez. Jesse Love slots in ninth, while Sammy Smith completes the top 10 starters.

Multiple drivers failed to set times in the session. JR Motorsports’ Connor Zilisch was second fastest in practice, but spun into the tires late in the session.

Kaulig Racing’s Christian Eckes crashed in turn 6 during practice and had to go to a backup car. Taylor Gray also had a crash and missed the session as JGR prepared a backup No. 54. Sage Karam also did not set a time. In his case, he was 16th in practice, but broke an oil pump late in the session. Repairs could not be made in time.

Unfortunately, both Karam and Kris Wright failed to qualify. Wright had his own issues, including a spin into the tires in practice and getting nosed out of the way by Smith during qualifying.
