Drivers are starting to race younger and younger.
Max Reaves, who has won three races in three attempts in the ARCA Menards Series East, is just 15 years old. Many of the drivers who make it to the NASCAR Cup Series have raced something since before their age reached double digits.
However, it is never too late to chase your dream in racing, and Virginia short track racer JB Bailey is proof of that.
Frontstretch‘s Michael Massie interviewed Bailey, who made his debut at Langley Speedway last year in the Enduros division. Bailey took an old 1997 Toyota Camry, with over 500,000 miles on it and couldn’t get the Virginia state inspection sticker renewed, and converted it into his very own racecar. While Bailey had some challenges getting the Camry on track, he achieved his dream of being a racer by making his first start.
Massie followed Bailey along as he made his second start at Langley on Saturday (June 21). Watch the video below to see hear Bailey’s story and see how his second professional race went.
Michael Massie joined Frontstretch in 2017 and has served as the Content Director since 2020.
Massie, a Richmond, Va., native, has covered NASCAR, IndyCar, SRX and the CARS Tour. Outside of motorsports, the Virginia Tech grad and Green Bay Packers minority owner can be seen cheering on his beloved Hokies and Packers.
