Hendrick Motorsports’ NASCAR Xfinity Series team has been levied with an L1 penalty following the series race at Pocono Raceway, NASCAR announced on June 25.
During inspection at the NASCAR R&D Center in Concord, North Carolina, Chase Elliott’s No. 17 Chevrolet was found in violation of the section of the rule book pertaining to Main Frame Rail Conical Receivers.
As a result, the team was fined $40,000 and assessed with the loss of 40 owner points and 10 NASCAR Playoff owner points. Additionally, crew chief Adam Wall was suspended from the next three Xfinity Series events through the race at Sonoma Raceway on July 12.
HMS will not appeal the penalty, FOX Sports motorsports reporter Bob Pockrass confirmed.
Elliott scored the pole, led a race-high 38 laps and finished fourth.
The penalty drops HMS’ No. 17 from 14th to 16th in the owner standings with 365 points. The team has competed in 10 of the 16 races, so it is ineligible for the owner points playoffs. Overall, the team has two wins and multiple drivers have wheeled the No. 17. The team is not entered in the upcoming race at EchoPark Speedway (formerly Atlanta Motor Speedway).
