Cup Standings After Mexico City

Shane van Gisbergen tamed the rainy weather and the twists and turns of Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Sunday’s (June 15) Viva Mexico 250 for the second NASCAR Cup Series win of his career and his first of 2025.

Van Gisbergen, who felt under the weather on race day, dominated by the weekend by winning the pole, leading 60 of the 100 laps and taking the checkered flag by 16.657 seconds — the largest margin of victory in a Cup race since 2009.

Entering Mexico City 33rd in points, a win was precisely what van Gisbergen needed to turn his season around, as he clinches a playoff spot in his rookie Cup season.

Ten of the 16 playoff spots have been filled by race winners. Six spots remain on points with 10 races left in the regular season.

Xfinity Standings After Mexico City

The NASCAR Xfinity Series’ first race in Mexico since 2008 was shaping up to be a race-long battle between Connor Zilisch and Ty Gibbs, but a restart Big One in the final stage took both of them out of contention and allowed Daniel Suarez to take the lead.

Suarez — who started dead last with a backup car after a practice crash — led the final 19 laps and never looked back, holding off Taylor Gray in the final corner to score the emotional win in front of a home country crowd.

Eleven races remain until the Xfinity playoffs begin in September. Justin Allgaier kept the points lead despite a 34th-place finish brought about by an axle failure, but his poor showing allowed Austin Hill to cut his points lead in half.

NOTE: Part-time drivers who are eligible for series points but ineligible for the championship will not be displayed in these graphics.
