The No. 14 AJ Foyt Racing team, piloted by Santino Ferrucci, has been penalized after the NTT IndyCar Series’ Detroit Grand Prix, INDYCAR announced June 2.
The car was found under driver ballast weight after post-race inspection.
Additionally, the car itself was 10 pounds over the minimum weight for the road and street courses.
The No. 14 team violated rules 14.4.2.2 and 14.4.2.5, which state “Driver Equivalency Weight must bring the combined weight of the Driver and Driver ballast to 185 pounds” and “the Driver ballast weight tolerance is 0.00 to + 1.00 pounds. The Driver Equivalency Weight must be installed and secured in the designed location forward of the seatback. This location may only be used for Driver ballast.”
The team was docked 25 championship driver and entrant points and was fined $25,000. Also, it loses the bonus point earned for leading a lap, and is not eligible for the engine points and prize money from Detroit.
However, Ferrucci and his team will still keep the second-place finish.
