The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season kicks off Saturday night when last season’s top performers hit the asphalt for the Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona International Speedway. The 17-car field is made up of former Daytona 500 pole sitters, 2016 Coors Light Pole Award winners, past Clash winners and 2016 playoff-eligible drivers. Also participating is MENCS rookie and 2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series champion Daniel Suarez.
The Clash also marks the beginning of the NASCAR Daily Fantasy Sports season, and Frontstretch will be your go-to source when building your 2017 DraftKings lineups.
With the smaller field, there will only be one Hot-Start pick this weekend.
Joey Logano ($9,400):
Joey Logano is coming off a stellar 2016 campaign, finishing second in the championship standings. He will be looking to build momentum in 2017, starting with the Clash.
When it comes to Daytona in February, Logano has seen his fair share of success. Since signing with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2013, Logano has finishes of third, fourth, sixth and second in the preseason exhibition. Logano won the Daytona 500 in 2015 and finished fifth last season.
Logano has also won three of the last eight point races at restrictor plate races over the past two season.
Teammate Brad Keselowski won two of the other five races, so there is no question that the Team Penske Fords perform well on superspeedways.
Logano drew the ninth starting position and will be starting mid-pack for the race. If Logano remains consistent with his previous Clash finishes, we will benefit from his positive position differential.
