Late Model racer Josh Berry is experiencing a variety of fresh opportunities over the past month.
The two-time NASCAR Whelen All-American track champion (Hickory Motor Speedway in 2014 and Motor Mile Speedway in 2012) competed in the XFINITY Series contest at Darlington Raceway Sept. 3 for Obaika Racing. Finishing 27th, he ended the evening eight laps down in his first NASCAR race in a car not fielded by JR Motorsports.
In Berry’s latest venture, he will be making his Camping World Truck Series debut at Chicagoland Speedway, piloting the No. 71 truck for Contreras Motorsports.
Berry joins the organization after making two XFINITY Series starts this year, in addition to sitting third in the CARS Tour standings after missing the sixth race of the season at Rougemont.
Contreras Motorsports has competed in eight of the 15 Truck Series races this year, with Mike Bliss, Enrique Contreras, Camden Murphy and team owner Carlos Contreras taking turns behind the wheel.
Berry has five career starts in the XFINITY Series, with a best finish of seventh in his lone start in 2015 at Richmond International Raceway. He is scheduled to compete in at least one more race for JRM at Kentucky Speedway, one week after his Truck Series debut.
