Chief among those struggles was an inability to explain what caused the fire on Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s racecar.
NBC also dropped the ball on its coverage of the last-lap wreck involving Corey LaJoie and Riley Herbst.
The broadcast focused on playoff drivers… and that was it.
NBC Sports cannot determine what the racing product is. It has to make do with what it has.
NBC Sports needs to realize that the playoffs are not the end-all.
With a few different folks in the broadcast booth, there was a different feel for calling the Southern 500.
However, NBC also covered Ryan Preece’s wild wreck very well.
