Chase Briscoe will start from the pole in Sunday’s (Feb. 16) Daytona 500 after posting a 182.745-mph lap in the second round of Wednesday night’s (Feb. 12) qualifying session.
It’s Briscoe’s third career Cup pole and first in the Daytona 500. It’s also the first Daytona 500 pole for Joe Gibbs Racing since 1998 and the first Daytona 500 pole for Toyota.
Austin Cindric will start on the front row of the Daytona 500 alongside Briscoe’s No. 19 Toyota. Both drivers will start on pole in their respective Duels.
The top two open cars of Martin Truex Jr. and Jimmie Johnson are locked into the Daytona 500 on time. Two more open cars will look to race their way in during the Duels. Should Helio Castroneves not race his way in, he’ll be added to the field as a 41st entry by virtue of the new provisional rule.

Hamlin and Bubba practice speeds were faster than the qualifying speed, probably because they ran together. Hamlin qualified with a slower time in 9th and then 6th. Wallace qualified 28th. Blaney was 38th in practice and qualified faster in 20th and Elliott qualified faster in 15th from 20th.
I don’t like the idea of the Duals running at night since it will affect the crowd at New Smyrna. The driver with the most wins at New Smyrna has 50. The driver is Jr. Hanley.
