AO Racing Adds Dane Cameron To LMP2 Effort for 2025

AO Racing revealed their full-season LMP2 driver lineup Wednesday morning (Dec. 11). Team owner-driver PJ Hyett will be back in “Spike” for his second year in the LMP2 class. He’ll be joined by Dane Cameron, who will replace Paul-Loup Chatin. Jonny Edgar will drive in the five Michelin Endurance Cup races, while Christian Rasmussen will be in the car in Daytona.

“We’ve been putting a lot of effort into elevating the level of competitiveness of our LMP2 program these last few months,” AO Racing team principal Gunnar Jeannette stated. “To have the reigning IMSA and ELMS champions joining us along with another Daytona winner from last year is very special. I can’t wait to see what PJ, Dane, Jonny, and Christian can accomplish in Spike at Daytona and for the 2025 season.”

“I am excited to join AO Racing and Spike in 2025,” Cameron said in a press release. “I think that PJ and Gunnar are creating something really special with Spike and Rexy, making new sportscar fans every race. LMP2 looks to be extremely competitive but we have a great line-up and everything we need to succeed this season. The goal is to bring PJ and Spike their first IMSA wins and championship. “

Cameron comes to the team after a very successful season with Porsche Penske Motorsport in the GTP class. Teamed with Felipe Nasr, Cameron had two victories (Daytona and Watkins Glen) and seven podium finishes en route to the 2024 GTP championship. However, that was not enough for Cameron to keep his status as a Porsche factory driver. He was officially dropped from the roster back in October barely 10 days after he won the title.

In his first year of LMP2 racing in IMSA, Hyett had a steady season. He ran the vast majority of the season with Chatin as his teammate. However, the round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park was a direct clash with the FIA World Endurance Championship round at Interlagos, resulting in Louis Deletraz driving in Chatin’s place. Hyett ended up finishing sixth in LMP2 points with a best finish of third at Road America.

Edgar signed to serve as Sean Creech Motorsports’ third driver in their Ligier JS P217-Gibson for last season. He ultimately made three starts for the team with a best finish of fourth at Sebring. However, Dr. Lance Willsey pulling out from the team left them unable to finish the season.

Rasmussen ran part-time in the NTT IndyCar Series for Ed Carpenter Racing, running all but three races (the Iowa doubleheader and Gateway). He finished 22nd in points with one top 10 finish, a ninth at Mid-Ohio.

In IMSA competition, Rasmussen has six career starts, all of which coming in Michelin Endurance Cup races for Era Motorsport. He was part of the class-winning lineup in last year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona with Ryan Dalziel, Dwight Merriman and Connor Zilisch.
