The Pit Straight: Marathoning From Milwaukee to Monza

PlayPlay

Fortune was feeling friendly last weekend (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) when Formula 1 and the NTT IndyCar Series delivered two weekends to remember for racing fans around the world.

IndyCar’s long-awaited return to the legendary Milwaukee Mile didn’t disappoint as the doubleheader weekend saw two fantastic short-oval races full of strategy, wheel-to-wheel action and championship drama to set the series up for a thrilling season finale at Nashville Superspeedway.

Across the pond, F1’s Italian Grand Prix ended in the best way possible in the minds of many with a Ferrari atop the podium, piloted by 2019 Monza winner Charles Leclerc. Behind Leclerc, however, the drama was brewing as McLaren’s questionable strategic processes cost the team another win that looked to be theirs to give away.

Somehow, still, there’s more! Before the Milwaukee weekend kicked off, INDYCAR CEO Mark Miles was in hot water after making comments about Pato O’Ward‘s popularity in relation to the series’ effort to secure a race in Mexico City, a punch NASCAR has beaten them to. However, the executive’s stance was not well received and his words demand an examination on this week’s episode of “The Pit Straight.”
