Two Joe Gibbs Racing crew members in the NASCAR Cup Series were issued two-race suspensions following a loose wheel on Ty Gibbs‘ No. 54 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, NASCAR announced Oct. 17.
The incident happened on lap 216, when Gibbs drifted up the racetrack coming out of turn 2 and impacted the wall. The right front wheel then became detached from the car as Gibbs coasted through turns 3 and 4.
He was held on pit road for two laps and ended up finishing 34th, eight laps down.
The two penalized crew members are jackman Braxton Brannon and front tire changer Jackson Gibbs.
The crew members will miss the Cup races at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Martinsville Speedway.
Currently in his his full-time Cup season, Gibbs has four top fives and nine top 10s with three races left in the 2023 season.
