Cole Custer Captures Martinsville Xfinity Pole

Cole Custer backed up his speed in practice and won the NASCAR Xfinity Series pole at Martinsville Speedway, going 94.411 mph in qualifying Friday (April 14).

It’s Custer’s 14th career pole and second of the season.

John Hunter Nemechek was .08 mph slower than Custer and will start next to the No. 00 on the front row.

Sheldon Creed begins third, while Jordan Anderson Racing’s Parker Retzlaff slots in fourth. Sam Mayer rounds out the top five.

Mayer’s JR Motorsports teammate Josh Berry lines up sixth and Sammy Smith is seventh. Justin Allgaier, who locked up the brakes on his qualifying run, posted the eighth-fastest lap speed. Riley Herbst and Brandon Jones completes the top 10 in the lineup.

Alex Labbe had a brake line cut in practice, but the team was able to make repairs. Labbe will start 24th.

Anthony Alfredo did not post a lap time after the team had trouble getting through tech inspection; he’ll start from the back of the field.

Garrett Smithley and Chad Finchum did not qualify for the race.
