Alex Albon Re-Ups With Williams F1

Alex Albon is staying with Williams Racing in Formula 1 for 2023 and into the future, Williams announced Aug. 3.

Terms of the deal were not fully disclosed, but it is a multi-year extension between the two.

“It’s really exciting to be staying with Williams Racing for 2023, and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a team in the remainder of this season and next year,” Albon said in a team release. “The team is pushing hard to progress, and I am really motivated to continue this journey and further develop our learnings together.”

As part of the announcement, he tweeted, “I understand that, with my agreement, Williams Racing have put out a press release this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is right and I have signed a contract with Williams for 2023. I will be driving for Williams next year.” The tweet referenced a variety of driver-team announcements made in recent days in the motorsport world, most recently by Alpine F1 Team, that drivers have later refuted.

So far in the 2022 F1 season, Albon has obtained two top-10 finishes, at Melbourne and Miami. He sits 19th in the overall points as the series enters its traditional summer break.
