John Hunter Nemechek had the fastest overall speed and fastest 20-lap average in Friday’s (May 6) Truck Series practice session at Darlington Raceway. He then followed it up an hour later with a pole speed of 171.232 mph, almost 3 mph and four tenths of a second faster than second-place qualifier Ty Majeski.
The pole is the fourth of Nemechek’s career and his second in 2022. He is currently fifth in series points, but he is also riding a 15-race winless streak.
Majeski will start outside of Nemechek on the front row. This marks his second start on the front row this season, as he was the polesitter for the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway.
Grant Enfinger will be the highest-starting Chevrolet in third, while Zane Smith will be the highest-starting Ford in fourth. Corey Heim, this year’s winner at Atlanta Motor Speedway, qualified fifth.
Carson Hocevar will start sixth after finishing runner-up in the previous race at the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt track. Matt Crafton, Matt DiBenedetto, Parker Kligerman and Ross Chastain rounded out the top 10.
Stewart Friesen was in store for a strong qualifying run until he got loose and smacked the wall in turns 3 and 4. As a result of the contact, he qualified 19th.
With 36 entries, every driver qualified for the race.
