In its last race before NASCAR uses its new qualifying procedure, Chandler Smith became the pole-sitter for this weekend’s NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race at Michigan International Speedway.
Smith, who turned 18 on June 26, will drive the No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota in only his sixth career start and second of this season. In five career starts, he has three top fives and four top 10s, with a career-best second in the 2019 race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Starting alongside Smith on the front row is Brett Moffitt. Moffitt is a two-time winner at the track, in 2016 and 2018.
Rookie and Smith teammate Christian Eckes will start third. Rounding out the KBM stable is rookie Raphael Lessard, who will start 11th.
Kansas Speedway winners Matt Crafton and Austin Hill will start fourth and fifth, respectively.
With the withdrawal of Spencer Davis, 39 drivers will compete in this race, including two NASCAR Cup Series rookies. Brennan Poole will start 17th and John Hunter Nemechek will start 34th.
David Gravel will make his series debut in GMS Racing’s No. 24.
