Martin Truex Jr. Named Talladega Cup Pole Sitter

Martin Truex Jr. has been selected as the pole sitter for the 2020 GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Truex has won once this season, at Martinsville Speedway. In 30 career starts at Talladega, he has two top fives and eight top-10 finishes.

Joe Gibbs Racing drivers occupy the top three starting positions. After Truex in first, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch will start second and third, respectively.

Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick round out the top five starters in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Forty drivers are entered for this race, so it will be a full field with no DNQs. Earlier today, it was announced NASCAR denied James Davison‘s request to race at Talladega. As a result, BJ McLeod slides into the driver’s seat of the No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet and Garrett Smithley will drive the No. 78 BJ McLeod Motorsports Chevrolet. McLeod will start 30th and Smithley will start last.

Cup Talladega Starting Lineup

The GEICO 500 will take place on Sunday, June 21, at 3 p.m. ET with TV coverage provided by FOX.
