NASCAR Camping World Truck Series group qualifying for the Keystone Light Pole Award kicked off Saturday afternoon at Iowa Speedway for the Speediatrics 200.
John Hunter Nemechek, who was victorious at Atlanta, won his first career pole award, setting the pace at Iowa Speedway with a time of 23.147 seconds (136.087 mph). This is the fourth first time pole winner this season in the Truck Series.
Starting second will be Cameron Hayley in the No. 13 truck for ThorSport Racing, with a time of 23.207 in his third career start from the front row. After a fire at Thorsport Racing’s shop in Sandusky, Ohio this week, the team worked out of a grocery store parking lot in an attempt to get each of the four trucks ready for this weekend’s race.
Rounding out the top 5 are Ben Kennedy, Kaz Grala and William Byron. Filling out the rest of the top 10 are Brandon Jones, Johnny Sauter, Nick Drake, Matt Crafton and Ben Rhodes. Kennedy is making his XFINITY Series debut this weekend, leading Friday’s pair of practice sessions.
Nick Drake, making his second start in the HAAS Automation No. 49 truck will start eighth in a collaboration between JR Motorsports and Premium Motorsports.
Grala will start Saturday evening’s race a career-best fourth.
Daniel Suarez, who is coming off his first XFINITY Series victory at Michigan, and will start 17th.
Donnie Levister, who attempted to make his Truck Series debut in the No. 74 truck, did not qualify for the event.
