The Sprint Cup Series took to Texas Motor Speedway early Friday evening for the final practice session for tomorrow night’s Duck Commander 500. Martin Truex, Jr. topped the charts for the entire session with a fast lap of 192.390 mph (28.068 sec.). Truex, who will start third tomorrow night, ran 51 laps.
Polesitter Carl Edwards spent much of the session second on the charts while running 57 laps. His Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch finished the session third with a fast lap of 189.507 mph. AJ Allmendinger, who finished runner-up to Busch last weekend at Martinsville, and outside polesitter Joey Logano rounded out the top 5.
Meanwhile, Austin Dillon, who posted the 13th quickest lap had the fastest 10-lap average speed at 184.633 mph to open the session. Dillon was also the driver who ran the most laps during the 80 minute session at 65.
Kurt Busch, who qualified 21st, ran sixth quickest, followed by Jimmie Johnson, who has won the four of the last five races at the mile-and-a-half oval. Jamie McMurray, Danica Patrick and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top 10.
The Duck Commander 500 is Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. local time and will be broadcast on FOX.
