Thirty cars took practice time Friday afternoon fort the Sprint Cup Series, and Denny Hamlin came out on top.
Hamlin, looking for his first Daytona 500 victory, turned a lap of 199.658 mph in the second practice session of the day. Toyota teammates Kyle Busch (198.640), Martin Truex Jr. (198.640), Carl Edwards (198.610) and Matt Kenseth (198.566) rounded out the top 5.
Ford drivers Ryan Blaney (196.498), Joey Logano (196.412), Trevor Bayne (196.386) and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (194.839) finished the session sixth through ninth. Jamie McMurray finished 10th (194.696), the highest-ranking Chevrolet driver in the session.
Pre-race favorite Dale Earnhardt Jr. drove the car named Amelia to 11th on the charts (194.670), while Jeff Gordon’s replacement Chase Elliott finished 14th (194.175).
Edwards had the fastest 10-lap average with a speed of 197.186.

Only one practice session remains for the Sprint Cup Series in preparation for the 58th Annual Daytona 500. It will take place at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.
