Surprises in sports are one of the things that keep fans watching, and in Thursday’s lone NASCAR Xfinity Series practice session for Friday’s Kentucky 300 at Kentucky Speedway there was a surprise at the top of the charts.
JJ Yeley and his Xfinity Series-only JGL Racing team led the field with a speed of 174.967 mph. Yeley beat out Ty Dillon for the top spot. Third fastest in the session was Brendan Gaughan, with Ryan Blaney fourth and Paul Menard fifth. Sixth in the session was Kyle Busch. Erik Jones, Darrell Wallace Jr., Brian Scott and Daniel Suarez rounded out the top 10.
All 40 teams practiced in the session without major issues. It was the only practice for the Xfinity Series after rain forced NASCAR to cancel the other practice sessions at the track on Thursday.
Qualifying for the Kentucky 300 at Kentucky Speedway is scheduled for Friday at 3:45 p.m. The Kentucky 300 is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
