Brendan Gaughan Returns to Cup Series, Driving for Premium Motorsports Full Time

A familiar face will return to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage area at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March.

Brendan Gaughan will return to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driving for Premium Motorsports beginning in the Folds of Honor Quik Trips 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 1.

Gaughan, 40, will attempt to make his 43rd career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Atlanta Motor Speedway, driving for a team operated by longtime car owner Jay Robinson.

Robinson recently purchased the points from the No. 36 team and Tommy Baldwin Racing, and along with that purchase brought over crew chief Zach McGowan.

Gaughan will take over the No. 62 Chevrolet after Brian Scott drives the car in the Daytona 500.

“We are very excited to have Brendan drive for our team this year, he has a wealth of experience and I consider him to be the perfect driver to build this team around,”  Robinson said in a press statement.

Gaughan’s races are in addition to his NASCAR XFINITY Series ride with Richard Childress Racing in 2015, also in the No. 62.

Gaughan ran for Rookie of the Year in the Sprint Cup Series back in the 2004 season, finishing 28th in points for Jasper Racing.

Sponsorship details for the team have not yet been confirmed.
