Johnny Sauter Paces Both Truck Series Practice Sessions at Texas Motor Speedway

Johnny Sauter put his No.98 Smokey Mountain Snuff / Curb Records Toyota in a familiar spot on top of the speed charts as the Camping World Truck Series hit the track for two practice sessions at Texas Motor Speedway in preparation for Friday night’s WinStar World Casino & Resort 350.

Sauter, a two time Texas winner, paced both sessions and was the only driver to top the 180 mph mark on the afternoon. The driver of the No. 98 Toyota posted a fastest lap of 180.114 mph in the first session, edging Timothy Peters, who ran a 179.545 mph lap. Sauter’s ThorSport teammate Jeb Burton came in third quickest, followed by Brennan Newberry. Martinsville race winner Darrell Wallace, Jr. rounded out the top 5. Point leader Matt Crafton started off the afternoon tenth on the speed charts.

Sauter moved on to better his speed in the second session, posting a fast lap of 180.186 mph, this time over teammate Burton, who ran a . Timothy Peters came in third quickest, followed by Kyle Busch. Crafton moved up the charts to round out the top 5. While no drivers ran ten consecutive laps in the first session, five teams did in the second session. Ryan Blaney led that group with an average speed of 174.845 mph. Kyle Busch, Tyler Reddick, Bryan Silas and Brennan Newberry were the only other drivers to run at least ten consecutive laps.

The Truck Series returns to the track on Friday for Keystone Light qualifying at 3:15 p.m. ET and the WinStar World Casino & Resort 350K at 8:49 p.m. ET. Qualifying and the race will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1.
