Qualifying for the Pep Boys Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway is in the books and four drivers have the edge on the field heading into the first round of the six race NHRA championship Countdown.
Eddie Krawiec topped the field in Pro Stock Motorcycle with a 6.849 second pass at 194.30 mph, and added some extra points to his total for his fast runs, points he said could be crucial to his championship chances in the Countdown.
“It’s nice to come into the Countdown knowing you have a competitive bike under you,” Krawiec said. “We need those little qualifying points that are ever so important. I lost the championship in 2009 by a total of two points and I know what those little points can do.”
In Pro Stock, Erica Enders-Stevens proved she and her Elite Motorsports team have their momentum back, taking the top qualifying spot with a run of 6.568 seconds at 210.37 mph. Enders-Stevens also noted those “baby points,” as they are called, gaining a total of 10 already on first place Jason Line, just through qualifying.
J.R. Todd went into the day number one qualifier, gave up the spot to Steve Torrence in round three and then got it back in the fourth and final round to end up number one Top Fuel qualifier for the weekend.
Alexis DeJoria, winner two weeks ago at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, continues her momentum, taking top qualifier honors at the Pep Boys Carolina Nationals with a pass at 4.090 seconds at 300.53 mph.
“It’s only our second number one ever, so it’s really exciting for our team,” said DeJoria. “Consistency has obviously helped us get round wins and just get better. I’m really excited about our chances in this race.”
