Stevie Smith keeps rolling, earns $10,000 Speed Week score in Mitch Smith Memorial

Drivers with new teams are supposed to need time to mesh. The more track time, the better.

Stevie Smith blows up that theory in 2014.

The second Smith hooked up with legendary Sprint Car driver, now owner, Fred Rahmer and Dave Pritchard for a part-time Friday night gig at Williams Grove, this team has been the class of the field.

They are fast. And getting faster.

Smith looked comfortable behind the wheel despite a few weeks off from the Rahmer/Pritchard mount. He stalked early leader Brian Montieth, made his move and sped away to a $10,000 victory in the Mitch Smith Memorial.

It was Smith’s third win in the crown jewel of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speed Week. It was also his sixth overall win in the series.

“These guys are so good with the set up,” Smith said. “This is a real good car, and it makes me more comfortable.

“I know I can run the bottom. I can run the top and even the middle at the end there. This is a real good race car, and I can’t thank these guys enough.”

Continued Smith, “I have a lot of guys to thank. Fred, Moon [Byers], Freddie [Rahmer], Brandon [Rahmer], they deserve all the credit. I’m just out here having fun.”

At the expense of the competition.
