Kasey Kahne led the Coca-Cola 600 six different times for 96 total laps, including the last one. As a result he scored his third victory in the annual Memorial Day weekend race and his fourth overall win at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kahne started the race in the seventh position but did not take the lead until the 220th lap. Kahne beat Denny Hamlin to the finish line by 4.295 seconds. The third place finisher was Kyle Busch who beat Greg Biffle to the line. Biffle led the most laps in the race, taking the point nine different times for a total of 204 laps. Rounding out the top five in the Coca-Cola 600 was Brad Keselowski.
The win is Kahne’s 13th career Sprint Cup victory in his 300th start. This is Kahne’s first win of the 2012 season. Hamlin’s second place finish is his seventh top 10 finish in 14 Charlotte races. Busch’s third place effort was his 10 top 10 in 17 races at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Stephen Leicht was the hightest finishing rookie. Greg Biffle is the series point leader with a 10 point gap over Matt Kenseth. This was the fastest Coca-Cola 600 in history at 3 hours, 51 minutes and 14 seconds.
