TOLEDO, Ohio – Brennan Poole, who won his ARCA debut earlier this season in the spring race at Salem, led what was a largely abbreviated first practice session Saturday at Toledo Speedway (Oct. 15) after incidents marred early on-track activity. Austin Rettig spun his No. 01 car early in the session exiting turn 2, avoiding contact with the wall.
Disaster struck moments later though, when Milka Duno‘s No. 63 car started smoking in turn 4 only to erupt into flames; the team would later confirm a broken oil line led to a fire under the hood; Duno emerged unhurt from the car, but the No. 63 team was forced to unload an unprepared backup car (the machine is built for intermediate-track racing).
After a lengthy track clean-up, practice resumed and saw another accident narrowly averted, with Tim George Jr. and Chrissy Wallace going three-wide around the slower No. 06 car of Tom O’Leary IV, earning a rebuke from ARCA officials.
Grant Enfinger led the pack at the conclusion of second practice, which saw the first multi-car incident of the weekend; George and Tim Cowen made contact exiting turn 4 that resulted in sheetmetal damage to both cars. Duno’s engine overheating at the conclusion of the session, spewing water from the overflow valve of the motor for well over a minute after returning to the garage.
