Welcome to Running Their Mouth! Each week, we’ll go through media reports, interviews, PR and all of our own stuff to find the best quotes from the NASCAR races, capturing the story of how the weekend unfolded. It’s the most original commentary you’ll ever find: the truth, coming straight out of the mouths of the drivers, crew members and car owners themselves.
This week was on off week, so here’s a sneak peek at what they all were thinking following the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Chicagoland Speedway:
“It was really fun out there tonight. This Traxxas Toyota Tundra was awesome. It was so fun racing Todd [Bodine] like that. He had enough to hang with us, he just didn’t have enough to get by us. It was awesome to race with those guys. Eric (Phillips, crew chief) and Rick Ren (director of competition) did a great job for us tonight, as well. It’s just really fun to drive these trucks. I love coming to Chicago. It’s kind of like a second home for me. I look forward to coming back here next year.” – Kyle Busch, winner of the EnjoyIllinois.com 225
“Second stinks, but we’ll take it. It’s another good points night and another good run. It shows how solid this team is every week and what kind of trucks that they bring to the racetracks. It was just another good night.” – Todd Bodine, finished second in the EnjoyIllinois.com 225
“I’m pleased with the results today. I feel like I have room to improve as a driver, but I’m pleased with the results today. This was a true team effort. We raced in the top five, top 10 all day, just solid, strong and smooth. It sure was a lot of fun. We were sure fast on the straightaways, great engines. We had a solid platform today. It was fun to drive. We had a few close calls, got into a couple of cars, but that’s part of racing at road courses.” – Brad Keselowski, finished fourth in the NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge
“We didn’t have any track position and it’s hard to pass at a place like this when you’re all bunched up and running the same speed. But we had a couple of late cautions and we had a chance to get past about six or eight of them. I always feel like I am pretty good on restarts just about every week, but once we got past the first lap on a restart tonight it would take us a few laps for the truck to come in.” – Matt Crafton, finished seventh in the EnjoyIllinois.com 225
“If the race doesn’t have caution at the end and a green-white-checkered – we win. And, it’s easy to say if you did this you should have done that, but with what happened to us in qualifying and starting last, we made our bed this morning. When the race started this morning, we had a plan – and we lived and died by it. It’s unfortunate we ran out of fuel. But, it’s also unfortunate the [No.] 38 (Jason Leffler) oiled down the racetrack.” – Robby Gordon, finished 14th in the NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge
“It really has got nothing to do with me. I’ve got a great team. We’ve really worked hard on our road-course program. I’m not better than anyone else out there at the front – I’m just one of them. I’m just proud of my guys. We gave it our best. It hasn’t worked out, of course again. We gave it a great shot.” – Marcos Ambrose, finished 33rd in the NAPA Auto Parts 22 presented by Dodge
